Haringey JTAI Inspection Letter published 30 January 2018 - a message from the Chair

Tuesday 30 January 2018

Dear All,

Haringey has an active and strong partnership, with all agencies committed to working together to protect vulnerable children and young people in the Borough. Between 4th and 8th of December 2017, the partnership was subject to a Joint Targeted Area Inspection (JTAI) of the multi-agency response to abuse and neglect in Haringey. A team of 14 Inspectors examined the services being provided by all partner agencies including the National Probation Service NPS, the Clinical Commissioning Health Group CCG, the Community Rehabilitation Company CRC, the Metropolitan Police, the Mental Health Trust and Haringey Local Authority which includes Public Health, Children’s Social Care, Youth Justice Services, Schools and Education Services.

This was our first experience in Haringey of having such a thorough and informative joint inspection, and we very much welcomed this scrutiny. The JTAI letter outlines in detail the various findings from the Inspection. Inspectors found many examples of good practice in schools, by General Practitioners, and from a range of individuals including staff from the Youth Justice Services, Children’s Social Care, the Police and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. In addition, the Inspection has helped us to identify all of those aspects of the agencies working together that need to be improved, including getting involved much earlier when children or their parents first need support, and making sure all services, keep children in their plans even when working predominantly with adults. As partners, we are all united in our endeavours to make sure the improvements needed will be our key focus over this next year and well into the future.

The Haringey Safeguarding Children’s Board met in mid-December after the Inspection to start planning the improvements, many of which are now underway. Now that the JTAI letter has been confirmed, this action will of course be urgently accelerated. A combined multi-agency action plan will be submitted to Ofsted in May 2018 and we will use the HSCB website to provide regular updates on our joint agency progress.
